‘Will you be my bridesmaid?’ and other exciting news!

A common question at wedding fayres is about cards to ask friends to step into that all important role of bridesmaid or to thank those who have already said yes for all their hard work once the wedding is over. Although these types of cards weren’t something we had initially considered we are pleased to show you a sneak peek at what we have been working on in response to your enquiries. Ta-dah!

Handmade pop-up bridesmaid card.

These lovely pop-up box cards fold flat for posting and can be made in any colours. A small foiled message can be added on the front flap for example; ‘Will you be my bridesmaid?’, ‘Thank you for being awesome!, ‘Thank you for being my bridesmaid.’, ‘Will you be my maid of honour?’. Keep your eyes peeled on the store for their release in the next week or so!

The next few weeks are going to be full of lots of new surprises for you! We have plans in motion to create a set of DIY wedding stationery kits. This decision comes after many conversations with engaged couples, at wedding fayres, who wish to be involved in making their own stationery but aren’t sure where to start or where to source their materials from. We aim to have a selection of kits available at different price levels and varied skill levels, included in our kits will be written instructions and a link to access some tutorial videos and photographs. We understand people’s desire to be involved with the making of their stationery and we fully support adding a personal flair to your wedding, please remember though that making invitations takes time and patience.

In the coming months we aim to present you with a wider variety of printed wedding stationery styles to choose from. Alongside more designs we are going to be releasing some stunning printed table plans, name cards and table numbers.

Making a good first impression.

Here at Wishful Inking we aim to create the wedding stationery that you truly want to complement your special day. Your invitations or save the date cards are the first impression that your guests will have of your wedding. This means that you should choose which elements of your wedding you want your guests to get a sneak preview of.

Making the right first impression is vital and you don’t want your wedding stationery to feel cheap and flimsy. Luxury

Red, gold and white pocketful wedding invitation available in our online shop.

heavy weight cards and papers are the first step to that feeling of quality. Your guests will be holding your stationery in their hands as they look at it and you want them to know this card, that has dropped through their letterbox, is obviously something important and special.

You may choose to share the elegance and splendour of your wedding day with your guests. This can be achieved using rich colours for your stationery or by enhancing elements of the images and text by using foiling. The metallic lettering can really create a focal point for your whole invitation and capture that feeling of elegance and grandeur in the finished look. Our ‘Time Flies’ invitation uses a rich red colour to create a striking contrast to the white of the main card. To really give it that next level of splendour, the gold foiling is used on the Bride and Groom’s names as well as other key elements of the information.

Summer pocketfold wedding invitations now available from our online shop.

Perhaps you’re having a fun summery wedding and want to give your guests a taste of the sunshine. This can be achieved by using vibrant colours and fun floral motifs. Move away from those traditional calligraphy fonts and bring in something a little more quirky to show off the more playful side of your big day. You can even bring these features in right from your save the date cards too. The soft watercolour feel of our ‘Summer Fun’ magnetic save the date cards really adds to the warm and fun effect of a great day at the beach.

There are so many ways to make a great first impression with your wedding stationery. Why not drop us an email at enquiries@wishfulinkingltd.co.uk and find out how we can help.

Wedding Fayres, what’s so good about them?

So you’ve just got engaged and you start seeing adverts for wedding fayres and suppliers all over your Facebook newsfeed. Not to mention the nudges from family and friends asking how you’re planning is going or if you’ve set a date yet. The expectation to know precisely where and how to start planning your special day is a little overwhelming. Don’t worry we are here to help!

Where do I start?

This is where wedding fayres are a fantastic tool at your disposal. They give you a chance to walk around and gather ideas about what you need to plan. Yes, the suppliers there will ask you if you’ve set a date yet, or if you and your partner have chosen a venue. This is okay, it allows you to start the thinking process. Everyone will be handing out brochures and leaflets and sometimes you will get a couple of free bridal magazines too! All of these bits of paper can be popped in the free bag you will more than likely have received on entry and reviewed at home later. Use them to create a list of what you want to organise and book and you can always note down the names of any companies or people you really liked.

I already know what I want, I have it all pinned and can buy everything online! Should I still go?

Yes! Definitely, yes! The internet is a fantastic resource for gathering ideas and inspiration, especially with websites like Pinterest at your fingertips. The only problem with viewing everything on a screen is that you can’t feel it, you can’t touch it or truly see the colours. Yes, you could send off for those stationery samples but that can get pricey and does the website you are browsing through have a friendly smile and perhaps offer you a sneaky free lolly while you chat? Suppliers at wedding fayres are there to talk to you and introduce you to themselves as well as their products. Remember that gelling with the supplier can be very important as you will more than likely be working with them on and off up until your wedding and you may even be seeing them on the day. A photographer, for example, will be there when you get ready, right through until you stick on those dancing shoes and sometimes longer so it is important you like them as well as their work. Planning a wedding is a big job and a lot of hard work, speaking to suppliers can also give you the help and advice that you may not have realised was so useful.

Can I show my ideas to the suppliers or will I come across as Bridezilla?

We are there to help you make your special day just as magical and wonderful as you want it to be. Discussing what you want from a supplier can really help both of you work out what is best for your wedding. When it comes to stationery we believe that you shouldn’t have to settle for ‘kind of’ what you want if we can create exactly what you want instead.

What kind of suppliers can I expect to see?

Wedding fayres host many different suppliers and you can chat to as many or as few as you like. Most wedding fayres are actually held at potential wedding venues and this gives you a great chance to have a little nosey before booking to have a chat with their wedding and event planners. The other people you will more than likely see are a variety of; photographers, wedding dress shops, suit hire companies, stationers, ring suppliers, entertainers, food vendors, hair and make-up experts and oh, the list goes on. Fayres give you a great opportunity to see things that you hadn’t even thought of and have a chat about whether they are the right thing for you and your day.

Our upcoming wedding fayres.

Our next two fayres are:

  • MacDonald Kilhey Court Hotel and Spa, Standish. Sunday 10th April 2016 from 12-3pm.
  • Thornsett Fields Farm, Birch Vale. Sunday 5th June 2016 from 11-3pm.

You can always keep up-to-date with our upcoming fayres by popping across to our wedding fayre page.

This is the first of Kate’s designs to be featured on our website and it is an absolutely gorgeous printed flat wedding invitation called ‘Fascinating Florals’. We have so much more to bring you over the coming weeks and months! It is an exciting time for Wishful Inking.

Welcome to our New Website – Feature Friday

We have been working on this for a few months now and are so pleased to be able to share it with you. We have added some great new features so please have a good look around.

One of the biggest changes on the new website is the ability to select your chosen number of invitations, RSVP cards or save the date cards. On our previous site you could only select 25, 50, 75 or 100. There is a minimum order of 25 for most of our products but you can just drop us a line if you require fewer and we can create a custom quote for you.

Product FilteringThere is a wonderful discount for anyone who purchases printed Save the Date cards, printed Invitations and a set of printed RSVP cards. If you have one of each of these types of product in your basket you will get a 5% discount on your entire basket. So if you also order a fingerprint guestbook canvas at the same time as your stationery you would get 5% off that too!

Another great feature we have introduced on the new site is filtering. Why spend 3 hours scrolling through page after page of products if you have an idea of what kind of thing you are looking for? Our filters allow you to narrow down your product list so you are only looking at the things that might genuinely be of interest to you.

As well as our products for sale and our bespoke gallery we also have our ‘Contact Us’ and ‘Where to Find Us’ pages. These are a great way of getting in touch with us, either by filling in the contact form or by popping along to one of our upcoming wedding fayres for a chat. If you do have any questions about products, designs or turnaround times do just fire an email off to us and we will be happy to help you out.

Where to Find us
Our blog is nice and easy for you to find and as well as announcing new product ranges and other exciting Blognews we do a fortnightly ‘Feature Friday’ post. This is where we may give you a bit of information about some of our designs or we may feature other wedding vendors, we have also been know to share wedding tips and tricks so make sure you check in regularly. If you really enjoy keeping up to date you can sign up for email notifications about new blog posts too.

In the New Year we are launching a fabulous little addition in the form of a newsletter. Our newsletter will feature our newest releases and any special offers or promotions we have running. We will be giving you a chance to sign up to that in the next couple of weeks so keep your eyes peeled.

And finally, an element of the website that is due for launch in January is the ‘create your own invite’ this will allow you to choose which type of handmade invitation you want and you get to choose all the colours, the inserts, how and where any ribbon goes. You can really get just what you want.

Thanks for reading, if you have any questions or just want a chat drop an email to enquiries@wishfulinkingltd.co.uk

Seals and Stickers – When And Where To Use Them

The obvious use for a seal or sticker is to seal your wedding invitation envelopes as you send them out to your guests. They are a lovely finishing touch that seems to make such a difference to the finished look of your wedding stationery.

Stickers are also a great way of sealing little bags of chocolates or sweets that you are having on your tables as wedding favours. Personalised stickers with a little message from the Bride and Groom would be fantastic for this. They really add a personal touch rather than just a piece of tape or a little star or heart sticker.

Some of the quirkier uses for stickers are my favourites!

What about having stickers with a photograph of the lovely couple and their wedding date to send out to people as part of your Save the Date cards. You can encourage people to stick it on their calendar as a fun way to remember the date of your wedding. In a similar style you could also include a sticker with your RSVP cards that is stuck in a certain place on the card by the guest to show whether they are able to attend or not.

Stickers can be a lot of fun and you can really use them in some creative ways. We offer a large selection of stickers in our shop; most of the digital designs have matching stickers available. We can also design you a custom set of stickers if you had something else in mind.

Birds of a Feather – Feature Friday

This lovely invitation is fun and vibrant but not too in your face and is a lovely way to introduce your guest to the colour scheme of you wedding without giving too many ideas away. The invitations are a nice balance between being fun and being formal.

The key features of this invitation are:

-Magnetic Clasp
-Double Mounted Inserts
-Pocketfold

The magnetic clasp on the front of the card is a lovely way to finish these invites. The magnets are strong enough to hold the invitation closed without having to be on view unlike velcro clasps which you can always see. We also feel that you don’t have to use as much force to open the invitations, this is key on some of our more delicate invites.

For this invitation we decided to keep the main card quite neutral with our buff card. We then really lifted the features and inserts by using the purple grape and ocean blue card in a double mount. This double mount style can be applied to any of our handmade wedding invitations though it does affect the cost.

This is one of our most recent pocketfold invitation designs. The little pocket can be filled with all sorts of information cards, RSVP cards and other bits and pieces you wish to send to your guests. Guests can also use it to keep any additional information, train tickets, booking references, etc.

Included in the price of this invitation are the white envelopes for the main invitation and the RSVP cards, amendments to the wording of the inserts, changes to names, dates and times etc., and your choice of colours.

View the invitation in our shop: Birds of a Feather

If you have any questions about this invitation or any of our others, please do not hesistate to get in touch with us at enquiries@wishfulinkingltd.co.uk

When Should I Send Out My Wedding Invitations – Feature Friday

When should I send out my Wedding Invitations or Save the Date cards?

This is a question we are asked quite frequently at wedding fayres. Traditionally, and according to several of the popular bridal magazines, you send out your invitations 3 months before your wedding and your save the date cards 4-6 months before the wedding. We would say this isn’t entirely accurate. What you need to do is ask yourself some important questions:

Do you have lots of friends or relatives that will be travelling a reasonable distance?

Do you have friends or family members who are notorious for forgetting to reply to messages?

Are you having a summer wedding?

Are you having a destination wedding?

Is your wedding at an expensive time of year (i.e. near Christmas)?

If the answer to any of those questions is ‘yes’ then you want to consider giving your guests more notice. For example, for a summer wedding, we would always recommend sending your Save the Date cards out about 12 months in advance or if you are just planning on sending out invitations, you may want to consider having them sent out 6-8 months before the date. This gives people plenty of notice and minimizes the chance of people having booked holidays or other events that would stop them attending your wedding.

Do I need to send out Save the Date cards?

You don’t have to, no. Remember though, that the later you leave it to send out your invitations the more likely it will be that someone could be busy. Please also remember your guests may have to book hotels or train tickets and they can be quiet pricey last minute. Some people prefer just to tell people verbally when the wedding is and then follow up with invitations later. This really is entirely up to you.

I am sending out Save the Date cards but who do I send them to?

Again, this is entirely up to you but we would always recommend sending Save the Date cards to any guest you are inviting to the wedding breakfast. If you are getting married in a venue where you can only invite a limited number of guests to the wedding itself these are the guests you send your Save the Date cards to. If you wish to send out Save the Date cards to every guest whether they are invited for the day or the evening you can.

How many invitations or Save the Date cards do I need to order?

Less than you think. The thing to remember here is that you only need to send out one invitation to each couple or perhaps family if they live at the same address. Obviously, this does alter slightly if you have several guests that live at the same address but are invited to different parts of the wedding. You really do need to sit down and work through your guestlist and tally up how many of each type of invite (day or night) you require, we cannot work that number out for you. Just as a guideline a couple of weddings we have created invitations for recently worked out as follows,

100 guests across the day and evening – We made 67 invitations. A couple of those were spares that the couple wanted to keep in albums and scrap books and they also had a lot of guests whose families were split across several locations due to work.

60 Guests for the wedding breakfast – This couple ordered 40 invitations and 40 Save the Date cards so they had a few spare just in case they had miscounted or made any mistake when writing them.

So I now have my numbers and I know when I am sending them out but when should I order them?

You should have ordered with us no later than 2 months before you want to send them out. This allows us time to order any materials from our suppliers in the correct colours and to actually make your invitations. We then aim to have them sent out to you a month before you wish to be sending them to your guests to give you time to write, address and stamp them all so they can go out together.

Please do remember that as it takes time for us to make the wedding stationery by hand it is wise to get in touch and make sure we have a time slot available to create your order when you want it. This is where our deposit system comes in as you can book your time slot months in advance if you wish by paying a 25% deposit upfront and then at the start of the month that we are making your invitations you will be required to pay the full balance. This method guarantees you get your wedding stationery promptly when you want it.

For more details about the deposit system or anything else please feel free to contact us: enquiries@wishfulinkingltd.co.uk

Alice In Wonderland Bespoke Wedding Invitations – Feature Friday

So this week our feature Friday post is telling you a little more about the beautiful Alice In Wonderland bespoke wedding invitations we created.

The concept is quite simple. The clients wanted invitations with a pocket on the inside and they wanted it to fit their purple Alice In Wonderland themed wedding. We spent a while playing with a few different concepts for the front of the invitation before deciding on this playing card. The ‘D’ and ‘K’ in the corners are the first initials of the Groom and Bride respectively. As a secondary colour at their wedding will be gold we decided to incorporate that colour into the invitations with the little gold letters and hearts. The three gold hearts across the front of the invitation flow quite nicely and link the two initials together visually.

The inside of the invitations (more pictures can been viewed in the bespoke creations gallery) feature a beautiful embossed clock motif that was added to fill a big expanse of purple that was too distracting. We also used the clock embossing on the backs of the RSVP cards. The inside of the invitation has a panel on the left inviting all their guests to the wedding itself and then a reversable panel on the right tucked into the pocket with details of the reception on one side and information about local taxi firms and hotels on the other. Also in the pocket you can find the RSVP card and its matching envelope.

The RSVP cards and envelopes were created using custom stamps that we also produced for the couple. This meant it was a much quicker process to address the RSVP envelopes. Although you can’t see the front of the envelopes for data protection reasons they had the RSVP address stamped on and then they were embossed in gold.

The couple had a lot of positive feedback on their invitations and have told us that a few times they have been to visit friends and spotted their invitations up on bookcases or mantelpieces.
