Making a good first impression.

Here at Wishful Inking we aim to create the wedding stationery that you truly want to complement your special day. Your invitations or save the date cards are the first impression that your guests will have of your wedding. This means that you should choose which elements of your wedding you want your guests to get a sneak preview of.

Making the right first impression is vital and you don’t want your wedding stationery to feel cheap and flimsy. Luxury

Red, gold and white pocketful wedding invitation available in our online shop.

heavy weight cards and papers are the first step to that feeling of quality. Your guests will be holding your stationery in their hands as they look at it and you want them to know this card, that has dropped through their letterbox, is obviously something important and special.

You may choose to share the elegance and splendour of your wedding day with your guests. This can be achieved using rich colours for your stationery or by enhancing elements of the images and text by using foiling. The metallic lettering can really create a focal point for your whole invitation and capture that feeling of elegance and grandeur in the finished look. Our ‘Time Flies’ invitation uses a rich red colour to create a striking contrast to the white of the main card. To really give it that next level of splendour, the gold foiling is used on the Bride and Groom’s names as well as other key elements of the information.

Summer pocketfold wedding invitations now available from our online shop.

Perhaps you’re having a fun summery wedding and want to give your guests a taste of the sunshine. This can be achieved by using vibrant colours and fun floral motifs. Move away from those traditional calligraphy fonts and bring in something a little more quirky to show off the more playful side of your big day. You can even bring these features in right from your save the date cards too. The soft watercolour feel of our ‘Summer Fun’ magnetic save the date cards really adds to the warm and fun effect of a great day at the beach.

There are so many ways to make a great first impression with your wedding stationery. Why not drop us an email at enquiries@wishfulinkingltd.co.uk and find out how we can help.

Wedding Fayres, what’s so good about them?

So you’ve just got engaged and you start seeing adverts for wedding fayres and suppliers all over your Facebook newsfeed. Not to mention the nudges from family and friends asking how you’re planning is going or if you’ve set a date yet. The expectation to know precisely where and how to start planning your special day is a little overwhelming. Don’t worry we are here to help!

Where do I start?

This is where wedding fayres are a fantastic tool at your disposal. They give you a chance to walk around and gather ideas about what you need to plan. Yes, the suppliers there will ask you if you’ve set a date yet, or if you and your partner have chosen a venue. This is okay, it allows you to start the thinking process. Everyone will be handing out brochures and leaflets and sometimes you will get a couple of free bridal magazines too! All of these bits of paper can be popped in the free bag you will more than likely have received on entry and reviewed at home later. Use them to create a list of what you want to organise and book and you can always note down the names of any companies or people you really liked.

I already know what I want, I have it all pinned and can buy everything online! Should I still go?

Yes! Definitely, yes! The internet is a fantastic resource for gathering ideas and inspiration, especially with websites like Pinterest at your fingertips. The only problem with viewing everything on a screen is that you can’t feel it, you can’t touch it or truly see the colours. Yes, you could send off for those stationery samples but that can get pricey and does the website you are browsing through have a friendly smile and perhaps offer you a sneaky free lolly while you chat? Suppliers at wedding fayres are there to talk to you and introduce you to themselves as well as their products. Remember that gelling with the supplier can be very important as you will more than likely be working with them on and off up until your wedding and you may even be seeing them on the day. A photographer, for example, will be there when you get ready, right through until you stick on those dancing shoes and sometimes longer so it is important you like them as well as their work. Planning a wedding is a big job and a lot of hard work, speaking to suppliers can also give you the help and advice that you may not have realised was so useful.

Can I show my ideas to the suppliers or will I come across as Bridezilla?

We are there to help you make your special day just as magical and wonderful as you want it to be. Discussing what you want from a supplier can really help both of you work out what is best for your wedding. When it comes to stationery we believe that you shouldn’t have to settle for ‘kind of’ what you want if we can create exactly what you want instead.

What kind of suppliers can I expect to see?

Wedding fayres host many different suppliers and you can chat to as many or as few as you like. Most wedding fayres are actually held at potential wedding venues and this gives you a great chance to have a little nosey before booking to have a chat with their wedding and event planners. The other people you will more than likely see are a variety of; photographers, wedding dress shops, suit hire companies, stationers, ring suppliers, entertainers, food vendors, hair and make-up experts and oh, the list goes on. Fayres give you a great opportunity to see things that you hadn’t even thought of and have a chat about whether they are the right thing for you and your day.

When Should I Send Out My Wedding Invitations – Feature Friday

When should I send out my Wedding Invitations or Save the Date cards?

This is a question we are asked quite frequently at wedding fayres. Traditionally, and according to several of the popular bridal magazines, you send out your invitations 3 months before your wedding and your save the date cards 4-6 months before the wedding. We would say this isn’t entirely accurate. What you need to do is ask yourself some important questions:

Do you have lots of friends or relatives that will be travelling a reasonable distance?

Do you have friends or family members who are notorious for forgetting to reply to messages?

Are you having a summer wedding?

Are you having a destination wedding?

Is your wedding at an expensive time of year (i.e. near Christmas)?

If the answer to any of those questions is ‘yes’ then you want to consider giving your guests more notice. For example, for a summer wedding, we would always recommend sending your Save the Date cards out about 12 months in advance or if you are just planning on sending out invitations, you may want to consider having them sent out 6-8 months before the date. This gives people plenty of notice and minimizes the chance of people having booked holidays or other events that would stop them attending your wedding.

Do I need to send out Save the Date cards?

You don’t have to, no. Remember though, that the later you leave it to send out your invitations the more likely it will be that someone could be busy. Please also remember your guests may have to book hotels or train tickets and they can be quiet pricey last minute. Some people prefer just to tell people verbally when the wedding is and then follow up with invitations later. This really is entirely up to you.

I am sending out Save the Date cards but who do I send them to?

Again, this is entirely up to you but we would always recommend sending Save the Date cards to any guest you are inviting to the wedding breakfast. If you are getting married in a venue where you can only invite a limited number of guests to the wedding itself these are the guests you send your Save the Date cards to. If you wish to send out Save the Date cards to every guest whether they are invited for the day or the evening you can.

How many invitations or Save the Date cards do I need to order?

Less than you think. The thing to remember here is that you only need to send out one invitation to each couple or perhaps family if they live at the same address. Obviously, this does alter slightly if you have several guests that live at the same address but are invited to different parts of the wedding. You really do need to sit down and work through your guestlist and tally up how many of each type of invite (day or night) you require, we cannot work that number out for you. Just as a guideline a couple of weddings we have created invitations for recently worked out as follows,

100 guests across the day and evening – We made 67 invitations. A couple of those were spares that the couple wanted to keep in albums and scrap books and they also had a lot of guests whose families were split across several locations due to work.

60 Guests for the wedding breakfast – This couple ordered 40 invitations and 40 Save the Date cards so they had a few spare just in case they had miscounted or made any mistake when writing them.

So I now have my numbers and I know when I am sending them out but when should I order them?

You should have ordered with us no later than 2 months before you want to send them out. This allows us time to order any materials from our suppliers in the correct colours and to actually make your invitations. We then aim to have them sent out to you a month before you wish to be sending them to your guests to give you time to write, address and stamp them all so they can go out together.

Please do remember that as it takes time for us to make the wedding stationery by hand it is wise to get in touch and make sure we have a time slot available to create your order when you want it. This is where our deposit system comes in as you can book your time slot months in advance if you wish by paying a 25% deposit upfront and then at the start of the month that we are making your invitations you will be required to pay the full balance. This method guarantees you get your wedding stationery promptly when you want it.

For more details about the deposit system or anything else please feel free to contact us: enquiries@wishfulinkingltd.co.uk
